Anyway, the result came yesterday because there is three certain vet's at the Swedish KC authorised to check the x-ray's and they decided I have EXCELLENT HIPS! Good news, isn't it!? Looking forward to see you later in April and really hope you manage to get someone to dogsit for a couple of days. | Wrote... I just wondered if you - or anyone - can help. My 7 year old male ESS, Hoover, has developed a growth on the top of his near side rear leg. As I write he is having the growth 'debulked' and tissue will be sent away for analysis. I know my vet is not very hopeful that she will be able to remove it all as she thinks that it has 'wrapped' itself around the muscle. Obviously we do not yet know whether it is benign or malignant but in the worst-case scenario she is talking about amputating his leg. My initial reaction was to say 'no way'. However she told me to stop thinking 'human' and start thinking 'dog'. She maintains that dogs adapt well following the loss of a leg, particularly a rear leg. Has anyone any experience of this? Springers are so active that I simply can't imagine a 3-legged one? My partner and I do not want Hoover to suffer unnecessarily but if we knew of anyone who has had the experience of having an ESS who lost a leg we would be very grateful to hear.
