She was a Phantom of delight
When first she gleamed upon my sight;
A lovely Apparition, sent
To be a moment's ornament;

Her eyes as stars of Twilight fair;
Like Twilight's, too, her dusky hair;
But all things else about her drawn
From May-time and the cheerful Dawn;
A dancing Shape, an Image gay,
To haunt, to startle, and way-lay

And now I see with eye serene
The very pulse of the machine;
A Being breathing thoughtful breath,
A Traveller between life and death;
The reason firm, the temperate will,
Endurance, foresight, strength, and skill

Now she is gone, and I, forlorn,
Still see her in the early dawn
Free sprit, with the zest for life
That helped me through my daily strife

My fearless, brave girl. You leave a hole in my heart.

Rachel loved France. The miles of open space, the freedom to run and hunt,she was truly in her element. The last 14 months of her life were surely the happiest and for that I am grateful.
Rachel sadly left us giving birth to two new Canouans which we have hand reared, and nutured with love and care. We shall post details later.
